Not that you have installed Dolphin Emulator, it’s time to update to the latest development version. Why the latest development version? Well, even though it’s a development version it’s quite stable. Also, by using the latest development version you’re reducing your chances of running in to issues. Whether it be from game compatibility or maybe even performance. The “latest” stable version that is available on the Dolphin Emulator website is over 2 years old. Since then, there has been continued development released as developer builds which have fixed a lot of issues, maybe even issues you are currently experiencing. Let me show you how easy it is to update to the latest development version of Dolphin Emulator.
- First of all you will want to install the most recent stable version, as it’s an executable. I have a guide you can use here.
- Once installed you’ll want to download and install 64-bit Visual C++ redistributable for Visual Studio 2015. It is required in order to run development versions.
- Next you’ll want to grab the most recent development version. You can click the image below to be redirected to the Dolphin Emulator download page. Note: 32-bit version for Windows is not available.
- Once the download has completed, you can extract the files directly to the Dolphin Emulator installation location. On Windows this will be C:\Program Files\Dolphin. Overwrite all files when asked.
That’s it. You are officially running the latest development version of Dolphin Emulator. Realistically builds are released daily, even multiple times a day so you might want to update your build if you run into issues. If you’re not experiencing issues with the current game you are playing then I would just continue to use that build. No reason to fix something that isn’t broken.
